Exclusive Promotion for PF Readers

This weekend is Mother’s Day and I have been bombarded with promotional emails all week asking that I post about various “perfect gifts” for expecting moms or new moms or seasoned moms. I could do that, but I personally find those lists depressing, as they assume there is someone out there preparing to buy you a gift. There are wonderful partners and fathers who also happen to be abysmal gift-givers, if they even remember to buy a gift. But, being that motherhood is just about the most selfless thing a person can do, we all deserve a carefully chosen, thoughtful gift once a year. So, we often have to content ourselves with selecting and buying our own gifts–which, as you might imagine, I have absolutely no problem doing.

So, below is my special Mother’s Day themed list–a brief list of the online boutiques offering Mother’s Day promotions and thereby facilitating our ability to go out and buy ourselves whatever our hormonal, impulsive selves desire. I find a VIP discount is better than a vase of flowers any day.

1.  More of Me Maternity–The playful, independent maternity line is offering 25% off its Spring/Summer 2012 line through this Sunday with promotional code “MOM25″

2.  Prelegant.com–The new online maternity boutique is bringing hard-to-find European maternity lines to U.S. buyers and is offering PF readers an exclusive 25% Mother’s Day discount through Tuesday, May 15th with promotional code “FASHIONISTA25.”

3.  Bella Materna–PF’s favorite destination for nursing bras and nursing gowns is offering a special Mother’s Day discount of 20% off all purchases over USD $200 with promotional code “MOM2012.”

4. Milkstars--The LA-based line of super-comfortable nursing tops and pajamas is offering 25% off through Monday with promotional code “MOM2012.”

PF Readers Receive An Exclusive 30% Off With Promo Code *prgnsta 30*

It’s not often that a truly clever new idea comes along in the maternity fashion market. Sadly, items like the rather useless Limited Edition Kourtney Kardashian Black Lace Belly Cincher receives gobs of attention when they enter the marketplace. While Kourtney’s been busy hocking a strangely suggestive lace postpartum girdle for $69, Jennifer Skanron’s been plugging along in Wisconsin with what might be one of the most useful creations to hit the market in a good long while.

Jennifer’s company, Suits Your Belly, designs maternity business wear for working women who may still need to maintain a professional look at work. I’ve been openly skeptical here at PF about maternity businesswear, but I don’t need to wear it and a lot of women do, so I welcome any designer who chooses to tackle this difficult maternity wear dilemma.  Though she’s new to the maternity fashion industry, Jennifer’s businesswear is among the most thoughtfully conceived I’ve seen in the market thus far.

It’s Jennifer’s own homegrown creation, the Zip-In Panel, that has me particularly impressed. Jennifer has figured out a way to turn a first trimester, under-the-bump trouser into a 39-week, over-the-bump trouser with a patent-pending cotton/spandex elastic panel that zips in and out of the waistband of her trousers. So many maternity designers advertise their items as appropriate for wear from the “beginning to end” of your pregnancy, but that is very often pure talk. Suits Your Belly is selling the real thing, i.e., a pair of maternity trousers you will not outgrow or have to abandon because they just don’t stay up anymore. Jennifer’s offerings are simple. Suits Your Belly’s trousers come in a single, basic wide-leg style offered in five different office-appropriate colors–black, chocolate brown, navy, grey, and beige. The quality is high and the trouser’s natural waistband includes buttons for adjusting as you expand and/or shrink down. You may add the Zip-In Panel whenever you decide you need it (Click here to watch a video detailing how it works). The natural waistband remains, but when you decide you need it, you suddenly have much-needed assistance in keeping it where it needs to be. And once you’ve given birth, and begin the process of “downsizing,” you can remove the Zip-In Panel and continue to wear the trousers without it.

Suits Your Belly also designs a lovely wool cashmere two-piece suit with matching trousers that also feature the same Zip-In Panel. Again, the style is basic, but the suit is available in four different colors. Work-appropriate blouses are also available in subtle shades of white, blue, pink, and lavender.

Jennifer is a small entrepreneur and a mom, two very valid reasons for giving her nascent line a try. And, starting today, she is offering PF readers an exclusive 30% off all purchases in Suits Your Belly’s online boutique with promotional code “prgnsta 30.” All purchases from Suits Your Belly are returnable within 14 days of receipt and Jennifer offers $5 flat-rate shipping.

Jennifer’s idea may very well be the next big thing in maternity wear. I am hoping it is just a matter of time before she attaches that Zip-In Panel to something made of leather.

In New York City, there are few invites as coveted as those granting early access to a sample sale. Permission to walk through the doors of a sample sale a few precious hours early can mean the difference between scoring a must-have piece from this season’s collection in your size or having to rummage through a bin of leftover coffee-stained samples from three seasons ago only to discover everything in the bin is a size XXS.

PF readers who happen to be in NYC tomorrow morning will experience the thrill of sample sale nirvana because a copy of this blog posting will earn you early access to Bellydance Maternity’s New York Sample Sale. The sale opens to the public at 11am on Wednesday, but print out this posting and you’ll be allowed into the sale at 9am. That’s two hours of sample sale shopping without having to worry that someone is going to pull your hair because you snagged her size before she did.

The Bellydance sample sale will include pieces from Paige Maternity, Michael Stars Maternity, NOM, t-bags Maternity, Ella Moss, Rachel Pally, Olian Maternity, and Japanese Weekend, just to name a few. And, everything is priced between $10 and $50.

If you aren’t going to be in the Big Apple tomorrow, find someone there who owes you a favor and send her/him this posting. The sale is located at the Bellydance Maternity store in NY (548 Hudson Street between Charles and Perry in West Village).

Important note: this is a CASH ONLY sale, credit cards will not be accepted.

Seraphine Maternity is one of those rare maternity fashion lines that manages to be high-quality, on-trend, and reasonably priced all at the same time. When I discover such lines, I am now enough of a maternity fashion connoisseur that I assume they are based in Europe. And I am just about always right.

Such is again the case with Seraphine, a French line that I came to know and love during my maternity shopping trips to London. The line is only eight years old with boutiques in both London and Paris. Seraphine is best know for its maternity denim, but the line’s pieces actually range from special occasion maternity dresses to casual linen trousers or brightly colored maternity bikinis and nothing is priced over USD $150. Seraphine currently does not have a boutique in the US, but is slowly branching out into the American market with a new, US-based online boutique. Hollywood’s current roster of pregnant celebs have already caught on and are fast becoming fans of Seraphine’s clothing, including Jessica Alba, January Jones, and Kate Hudson.

But, no need to take Betty Draper’s word for it, because Seraphine is joining with PF to offer one of my readers a chance to win Seraphine’s Summer 2011 Printed Floral Maxi Dress. This dress is Seraphine’s best seller this summer and has already sold out once this season. But it has just been restocked and can be yours by simply sending an email to caroline@pregnantfashionista.com with the subject line “Seraphine Giveaway.” Email me between today and June 15th and you’ll be entered into the contest. I’ll conduct a random drawing and announce the winner on Friday, June 17th. Seraphine will contact the winner directly for sizing information. Good luck!

The promotion offers keep rolling in here at PF. It turns out that the ladies over at SwimSpot, an online site for designer swimwear, are fans of Pregnant Fashionista and want to offer new moms an opportunity to win a $100 gift certificate to shop on the site.  They don’t sell maternity swimsuits, but they do sell these incredible “postpartum-friendly” new suits from Luxe by Lisa Vogel. My post-twin-pregnancy, double post-C-section self is a particular fan of the Peekaboo Tankini from Luxe by Lisa Vogel, pictured at right. (USD $91). This suit has a built-in strapless bra with cups and, as the picture indicates, provides a forgiving, blousy silhouette for the very recently pregnant…or, let’s be honest, the not-so-recently pregnant.

Nikki at SwimSpot was kind enough to lend me a sample of the Peekaboo Tankini and it is a very understated, demure, yet still very chic suit. And, the bottoms offer relatively good coverage which is an important issue with a two-piece. Most importantly, I felt as if a woman who wears this suit could do so without appearing to be hiding something. Instead of seeming to be camouflaging your extra bits and pieces, this piece does manage to simply make you look kind of fabulous. I don’t think I’ll be taking SwimSpot up on its recommendation that this is appropriate for a cocktail party, but I’d feel comfortable wearing this to any beach or pool (the crystal beads across the top might be a bit much for wading in the local public baby pool, but now that I think about it, the unfortunate bathing suit selections at my own local baby pool could all benefit from a bit of crystal beading).

Entering to win the $100 gift card is easy and painless–click here to register your personal email and become a “SwimSpot VIP.” Then, send me a personal email at caroline@pregnantfashionista.com and I will enter you into a drawing to be held the morning of Friday, February 18th. The winner of the drawing will receive a $100 gift card directly from Nikki at SwimSpot. SwimSpot carries suits from Splendid, Ella Moss, Hurley and even carries little girls’ bathing suits from the new Hurley Girls line, which starts at size 4. So, even if you aren’t yet quite feeling bikini-ready, maybe your toddler is?

The launch of Isabella Oliver’s Spring/Summer maternity collection is always one of my favorite days of the year fashion-wise. Here you are in the doldrums of winter, itching to partake in spring fashions, but far too cognizant of the fact that runway fashions are not an option for you and your burgeoning belly this year. A few of the online maternity boutiques have started stocking Spring 2011′s items and you may be thinking about indulging in one piece early on to hasten spring’s arrival, but it’s still absolutely freezing outside and you haven’t quite clicked the purchase button yet.

Isabella Oliver’s Spring 2011 collection, which debuted today, will change that for two reasons: 1) because it’s gorgeous, and 2) because they are offering PF readers an exclusive 15% off the new collection. Use promo code “PREGFASH15″ for 15% off the new collection.
If you read this blog, chances are you already own one of IO’s pieces, so you don’t need me to assure you about the high-quality fabrics, thoughtfully tailored cuts, and that these pieces will last through all of your pregnancies. I’ll let the new pictures here speak for themselves. Click here to shop IO’s new maternity collection (please note that a few pieces from the Spring 2011 collection, including this beautiful long floral dress, are not yet available on the site, but will be available in March).

And don’t worry–many of IO’s tried and trued pieces, like the wrap tops, ruched dresses, and nursing tops are included in the new collection in fun new colors, so the promotion applies to those as well. And if you still read this blog but have happily put pregnancy behind you, the promotion also applies to Isabella Oliver’s non-maternity collection, 365. Click here to shop 365′s Spring 2011 collection.*

* Terms and Conditions of Promotion: Offer is valid from Friday 4th February 2011 and expires midnight Friday 11th February 2011. Offer only valid on Isabella Oliver branded goods and cannot be used with any other promotional codes, offers or sale items. Normal return policy applies however where items have been bought during a promotion, we are only able to exchange an item for the same item in a different size or colour. Isabella Oliver reserves the right to change these terms and conditions at any time.

P.S. I feel compelled to share this article with all of you, entitled “Regrets of a Stay-at-Home Mom,” which appeared last month on Salon.com..if you are one of the mommies (like me) who is struggling with the choice to stay home or return to work, it is a must read…and be prepared for it to plague you for a good 24 hours after you read it.

This discount has been kindly extended through the end of 2011 so shop away!!!
Perhaps the fashion high point of my three, fashion-starved years living in Israel was the discovery of Peek-a-boo Nursing, a Tel Aviv-based company founded by Noa Vilenski. I posted about Peek-a-boo here last April after Noa sent me a few of her beautiful jersey nursing tops. I have received nothing but rave reviews from readers who heeded my advice and purchased their own tops directly from Noa.

Peek-a-boo is a bit late to the online retail game, but I can promise you this was worth the wait, as Peek-a-boo is now finally available for purchase online here directly from the Tel Aviv showroom. As an added bonus, worldwide shipping is free.  And, there is one more bonus for PF readers–in honor of the new online boutique and to thank PF readers for their past support, Peek-a-boo is offering PF readers an exclusive 15% discount off their entire order from today through the end of February. Simply type promotional code “FASHIONISTA” at checkout.

As for my personal recommendations, just about anything at Peek-a-boo is worth the investment because of the extremely high-quality thin, cotton jersey Noa uses for all of her pieces. Think designer nursing wear. You will not be able to distinguish these nursing shirts from your favorite designer T-shirts. One of my closest friends always thanks me for introducing her to Peek-a-boo, because “the shirts are just so soft.” Personally, I am a particular fan of Peek-a-boo’s nursing tanks. They are ideal for layering under sweaters and come in a great range of colors. The shirts are also extra long, so they do work for early on in a pregnancy, as well as those first few postpartum weeks when you are not pregnant but look it. Because of the tremendous stretch in the jersey material, these are also ideal tops for women with larger cup sizes. (Noa, you should send one to Mariah Carey right away–I shudder to think what a nursing Mariah will wear out in public).

Please be sure to pass this discount along to your pregnant and nursing friends. PF readers love these discounts, but we all need to use them to keep them coming…

11/4 UPDATE: CHARLOTTE AT EGG MATERNITY JUST EMAILED TO SAY THAT THE PROMO CODE IS ACTUALLY GOING TO BE “PFPROMO,” RATHER THAN “PF PROMO” AS I POSTED LAST NIGHT .

I’ve been working on arranging this exclusive promotion for months and it is finally, finally in place and ready to be used by all of you lucky ladies. Fabulous New Zealand-based maternity designer EGG Maternity is offering 20% off sitewide for the entire month of November with promotional code “PF PROMO.” You’ve seen EGG Maternity scattered across upscale US maternity boutiques, but you’ve never had the entire EGG collection to choose from…at 20% off, no less (EGG ships from New Zealand, but offers international flat rate shipping for about USD $16). This is the first time EGG founder Charlotte Devereux has done a sitewide promotion like this, so we are all very lucky shoppers.

Here are a few of the highlights from this season’s collections…remember, it’s almost summer down under, so many of EGG’s current pieces may appear more appropriate for warmer weather. But that is nothing a pair of tights, a long-sleeved T-shirt, a cozy sweater, and a commitment to good layering can’t fix.

By the way, EGG’s website lists its prices in New Zealand dollars which means you are all in for a pleasant price when you do the conversion to US dollars.

This Black Sequined Tunic is virtually mandatory for the upcoming holiday season…and it is already severely reduced here from $249.90 to 99.90 (USD $77). I just lent it to an uber-stylish pregnant friend in NY and she paired it with dark skinny maternity jeans and came back with rave reviews.

You must buy EGG Maternity’s Lucky Legs leggings here. I don’t like leggings at all, but I acknowledge the pregnant woman’s need for them. If you are going to buy them, these are the ones to buy. They cost about USD $53, but with the discount, you’ll pay only about $42. Still high, but saying these leggings are soft is an understatement–as my pregnant friend wrote me, they are “like butter.”

I love this dress and though it’s for summer, it comes in two beautiful patterns and is therefore reason enough to book a winter babymoon in a warm location. With the PF promotion, it is reduced from about US $154 to about US $123. Even if you, like me, do not have a beach vacation on the horizon, this would be nice to have hanging in your closet come spring.

EGG’s Capsule shirt is an ideal basic for your maternity wardrobe and the neutral gray color is great. It’s not too low cut, and the cut is flattering from the first trimester through post-pregnancy. It is priced at USD $77, but reduced to about $62 with the PF discount.

OK, just a few suggestions, but if you order something you absolutely love, let me know and I’ll post about it. Have fun shopping and please, please pass this discount on to all of your pregnant friends. In order to make sure the PF exclusive promos continue, we all need to shop!
