Bargain!!!

If you didn’t take the plunge and spring for yesterday’s Decadent Monday cashmere outerwear pick, you likely now find yourself in the same predicament I proposed yesterday–what coat are you going to wear when the weather turns really cold?

It is only on the rare occasion that PF goes super budget-friendly and recommends a trip to Target to buy clothing, but I speak from experience when I tell you that Liz Lange for Target’s line always includes a decent basic wool maternity coat in its winter collection and this season is no different. For a mere $41.99, pregnant fashionistas can ensure their bumps will not go cold this winter with the Liz Lange for Target Maternity Wool Coat, a mostly wool, lined, double-breasted maternity trench, available in black or dark grey. Liz Lange’s Target coats will last you the winter and will absolutely look appropriate over your more expensive maternity wardrobe pieces. Lange always keeps her winter coats for Target classic and simple, which is why they work, despite being cut from mediocre-quality material. You will not end up wanting to keep this coat past the season, but it will serve you well while you are wearing it and come spring, you will be happy to get rid of it, knowing you truly got your money’s worth.

Happy Turkey Day! PF’s Black Friday round-up is on its way later this evening, but I had to give readers a heads up that David Lerner’s Luxury Collection of Maternity Leggings just went on sale at MyHabit.com, Amazon’s sample sale site. I’ve received a few emails asking where to buy these designer maternity leggings, and they are no longer available on David Lerner’s site. This is the first place I’ve seen the entire collection for sale since Lerner first released it over a year and a half ago, and this sale is offering discounts over 50%.

A pair of super-chic chocolate brown maternity cargo leggings for a mere $59 (usually $165)? How can you say no to that?

If you’ve made the decision not to register on Gilt.com, I respect that. My sister says she hasn’t registered because she doesn’t want to be tempted. Personally, now that the site is so unbelievably well-known and successful and allows VIP’s to shop earlier than the rest of us, I am usually annoyed at never ever being able to find something I want available in my size, so I don’t even bother all that much anymore.

Pregnant fashionistas should definitely consider bothering tomorrow, because Gilt is staging a maternity sample sale featuring recent pieces from maternity design superstars like NOM, More of Me Maternity, Japanese Weekend, and Egg. I was able to gather a bit of intel regarding specific pieces that will be included in the sample sale and all those pictured here will be available. The More of Me Sequined Party Dress above has been sold out since before Christmas, when Liz Lange recommended it on The View. But that same $220 dress will be part of tomorrow’s sale, and most pieces will be priced at least 50% off retail.

Of course, I can’t guarantee that some pregnant Gilt VIP isn’t going to use her enviable 15-minute head start to snatch up your size, but it’s certainly worth posting yourself at your laptop come noon EST tomorrow and taking your chances. Click here to join Gilt so you can be ready to participate tomorrow.

As I’ve written before, Australia and New Zealand are home to some incredibly trendy maternity boutiques. Although I’ve never actually been to Australia or New Zealand, I imagine both places are simply chocked full of incredibly well-dressed pregnant women. No denim maternity dungarees allowed down under.

The best part about the maternity fashion industry down under? It holds its “end-of-summer” sales in February. Just as we residents of the northern hemisphere are readying ourselves to buy summer clothing, the Aussies put theirs on sale. And now that the top Australian online maternity boutiques are offering flat rate worldwide shipping, there’s no reason not to shop Australia’s end-of-summer sales right now while you’re still freezing your pregnant butt off in the USA.

One on the Way Maternity has a great sale on here right now, with sizeable discounts on many of Australian’s homegrown maternity lines, like Mishka ‘n Milka, Soon Melbourne, and, of course, Ripe Maternity. The Ripe Maxi Dress, which is about to sell for approximately $110 this spring in the US, is discounted here to $65, and is still available in almost all sizes in both deep purple and blue. This adorable Mishka ‘n Milka sun dress at left is discounted to $199.95. Many of the sale items are only available in limited sizes, but perhaps today is your lucky day.

Glowmama Maternity has a smaller sale selection available here, but it includes some ideal basics from the fun, trendy Australian-designed Szabo Maternity collection and the discounts are big. Szabo’s cute, lightweight cargo pants are still available in both black and khaki, and this blue-printed summer skirt is still available–sizes are very limited.

Sweet Lilly Maternity, home of the fabulous Australian-based maternity line Lilly B, has a great selection of summer items on sale here, including this cotton chintz flowered sundress at left by Lilly B. This sundress is still available here and is reduced 50% to $74.99.

And this tri-color maxi dress pictured at right also designed by Lilly B is discounted by 60% to $78.80 and is still available in two colors. I just love this dress. If you wear this out and about this summer, you can be sure none of the other pregnant Americans you run into will also have it on.

Over in New Zealand, Maternity World is offering a good selection of Ripe Maternity’s Summer 2010/2011 Collection at a modest discount here. Shorts, sundresses, bathing suits–they are all available in limited sizes . The Ripe Camellia dress pictured here is reduced to NZD $119.90 (USD $90) and is still available in a size Small. A large array of New Zealand maternity/nursing lingerie designer Hotmilk’s most recent collection is also on sale at Maternity World here. Here in the US, Hotmilk is synonymous with racy maternity and nursing lingerie but it turns out that you can, in fact, buy yourself a pair of relatively modest, comfy Hotmilk maternity PJ’s in this sale. You can also, of course, also buy yourself a navy blue lace bra and matching French knickers entitled “Her Midnight Charm was Striking” and discounted by 30% in this sale as well. To each her own…

**2/18: Maternity World saw this posting and has offered PF readers 10% off any purchase from the site with promo code “PREGNANTFASHIONISTA” from now through the end of February

Two Big Sales at Bellydance

January 24, 2011

Today and tomorrow only, Bellydance Baby is offering 50% off all baby clothing with promo code “BABY50.” Click here to shop the selection. They’ve got onesies, rompers, two-piece sets, socks, and hats all slashed right down the middle from brands like Kickypants and Kissy Kissy. Stock up that nursery before they sell out.

Once you’ve folded and organized your onesies in your serene new nursery, head to the Bellydance Maternity sample sale at the New York City boutique (548 Hudson Street) this Saturday from 9a to 3p for complete mayhem. I’ve been to this sample sale–it’s pretty crazy and it’s one of those events where women push and pull hair to get to certain items before you do. It’s all the more amusing because the woman pushing you is usually about 6 months pregnant. But you’ll likely score a few key maternity basics at drastic discounts because everything is priced between $10 and $50. Bring a husband/partner/friend to body block for you if you’re pretty far along.

I’m very anti-Gilt these days, but the site will launch its Maternal America sample sale today at noon EST. Maternal America needs no introduction and you can find it absolutely everywhere–but not necessarily at 65% off, which is the discount Gilt is offering today. Click here to join Gilt if you aren’t already a member. Maternal America runs big, so do not size up unless you are in your third trimester with twins (I speak from hard-earned experience on that).

I was in NYC yesterday for work and sadly could not squeeze a visit uptown to Veronique or Rosie Pope into my schedule. Consequently, I had to settle for a very quick visit to the only maternity boutique in midtown Manhattan–Destination Maternity’s flagship store at 57th and Madison.

As usual, my visit to Pea in the Pod, which occupies the bottom floor of Destination Maternity’s flagship, was extremely disappointing. First of all, from the moment I walked in, the very young saleswoman was hovering over me, telling me what she thought would be “perfect” for me and I found that extremely annoying. No surprise here, but when I asked her if she’d ever been pregnant, she said no. My conclusion after she finally stopped bothering me and I was able to spend about 15 minutes browsing the racks in peace?  The winter/holiday offerings from Pea in the Pod’s inhouse line are downright tacky and shockingly overpriced this season. Don’t even bother. Most of the holiday offerings don’t seem to be posted online yet, so I can’t show you any photos, but you are not missing anything.

But Pea in the Pod does still allow other designers to sell maternity-friendly items at their store and that remains the only reason any of you should ever shop there. AG Jeans continue to be one of the highlights of their offerings and several of AG’s pieces are currently discounted. The slim-fit AG corduroy trousers are reason enough to frequent Pea in the Pod and they are offering them for USD $195, down from USD $225. This winter, they are available in black, grey, and a great navy color here.

AG’s skinny twill cargo trousers are a full 50% off, believe it or not, discounted from USD $225 to USD $111.99 and still available in a good range of sizes in both black and olive here. I tried both the corduroys and the cargoes on in the store and they are very fitted. Stick to your pre-pregnancy size on the cords, but because the cargoes are made from cotton rather than denim and won’t stretch out as much, I would go one size up from your pre-pregnancy size.

Pea in the Pod’s online designer boutique does have a good number of fall/winter pieces on sale right now. Click here to browse all of their offerings from outside designers, i.e., to avoid having to wade through their overpriced inhouse collection.

I know that summer is just about over, but I spent the weekend on Martha’s Vineyard with a pregnant friend and I am quite taken with her FEM by T-Bags’ beach cover-ups. I had noticed this cover-up for sale before, but had never focused on the fact that it is made from terrycloth. Throw this cover-up on over a wet bathing suit and you don’t have to worry about it being soaking wet in all the most unflattering places. You can’t even tell when it’s wet.  Plus, it’s cute enough to wear as a dress, especially perfect if you are at the stage where a bathing suit at the beach is no longer an option.  This cover-up is discounted 70% here at Blossom and is now priced at a mere GBP 35 (USD $55). Buy it now, wear it for your Labor Day beach trip and then pull it out again for your winter babymoon on that Caribbean island. Or, if that exotic babymoon isn’t happening, you can just wear it when you get out of the shower. In fact, now that I think about it, it would be perfect to wear at the hospital after the nurses make you take that first painful shower and you are in so much pain, you simply cannot even fathom drying your own body off. If you can manage to pull this over your head, you will not only be dry, but undoubtedly be the most fashionable new mom on the maternity unit.

My friend Nassrin always tells me that I do a poor job of keeping her informed of good children’s clothing sales. Obviously my primary mission with this blog is to outfit all of you pregnant woman. But inevitably you’ll be buying children’s clothing soon. Being that I do spend a substantial amount of time searching the web looking for bargains on high-end children’s clothing, I thought I’d share today. There are a good number of very serious sales going on this week, so here you go, Nas:

1. Crewcuts. J Crew’s super-cute children’s clothing collection widened its sale selection today and while the sizes are limited, shop today and you could score yourself a bargain. They are offering 30% off the already-reduced sale prices when you use code “EXTRA30.” Shop now here, this stuff goes quickly. I have already had some other enterprising shoppers steal items out of my shopping cart before I could even enter my credit card. I really love Crewcuts shoes, by the way. Very durable and they look like real shoes, not like kids’ shoes.

2. Ralph Lauren. Always my go-to designer for the boys’ back-to-school clothing, Polo is offering an additional 25% off their summer sale prices this week here. Again, children’s sizes are limited, but their clothing is timeless and there are many bargains to be had, especially on trusty basics like T-shirts and cargo shorts. Buy ahead for next summer, that is what I have been doing.

3. Tuttibella. This high-end children’s clothing boutique has been staging a “Progressive Sale” here for the past few weeks and prices are now up to 75% off.  Sizes here are extremely limited, but there is still a good selection of infant wear available. Some of the clothing is ridiculously expensive, but at 75% off, ridiculous can suddenly become reasonable. James went to camp this morning in his new Moschino black Bermuda shorts, pictured at right. Originally priced at $149.95, they are now only $36.99. I don’t know who is buying toddler boys’ shorts for $149.95, but I must say, these are very, very nice shorts.

4. Vineyard Vines. The children’s clothing made by Vineyard Vines is certainly pricey, but I can tell you from experience that their clothing lasts. These pique polo shirts I bought two years ago for James lasted through both twins and Leighton is now wearing them. They still look great–and that’s after numerous treatments with various stain-removal agents. Vineyard Vines is currently offering 25% off its sale items with promotional code “VVSUMMER25″ here and although the initial sale prices themselves aren’t so impressive in terms of discounts, the additional 25% off does make it seem like you are actually getting a good deal.

5. Mini Social. If you are about to have a baby, then click over here to join Mini Social today and shop the Splendid Littles sample sale. Most of the availablility is in the infant sizes, but there are some items available in larger toddler sizes. Splendid Littles runs extremely small and does shrink a little bit, so I always buy two sizes up for the boys. If you are a soon-to-be new mom and haven’t discovered Splendid Littles yet, you are in for a treat. It’s been years since I discovered this incredibly soft cotton children’s line, and I still can’t seem to get enough of it.

Happy shopping!

There is still a good amount of summer left–enough to justify buying yourself a pair of white maternity jeans on sale, i think. Pickles & Ice Cream has reduced J Brand’s white maternity jeans by 40% in it’s online maternity boutique. Both the straight leg version and the cropped version are discounted and I was surprised at the range of sizes still available. Apparently, not all pregnant women are feeling that they must have a pair of white maternity jeans for close to USD $200. I understand. At USD $120, maybe you will feel differently. Click here to shop Pickles & Ice Cream’s summer sale. You should go one size up in these jeans, but be prepared to wash them every time you wear them, because they definitely stretch out quickly. Although, what doesn’t when you’re pregnant, right? Also, if you are having a winter baby, it might be worth picking up a pair of these for those postpartum months. Having a pair of J Brands to wear in those awkward post-baby days is nice.
