I hesitate to provide any of you with fashion advice today, as over the weekend, I again wore two different shoes out in public. This time, I wore a black and white striped flat with a brown patent buckled flat. And again, I did not notice it for hours–my husband noticed it when he arrived home later that evening. Luckily, I only left the house to pick up pizzas for the boys. I really, really, really need to get more sleep or I feel as if things are going to worsen and I shall soon be roaming Jerusalem in my bathrobe.
Rather than fashion advice, today I will give you a bit of fashion news–some sad fashion news, actually, being that I received confirmation from Liz Lange herself over the weekend that her recently revived high-end maternity line will not release a new collection this spring (thanks to PF reader Brooke for reminding me to ask). Only a year ago, we were all celebrating the re-launch of her high-end line here. Liz tells me that the company that purchased Liz Lange several years ago has decided not to continue with the high-end line maternity for now and instead, all of Liz Lange’s maternity fashion expertise will be channeled into the Liz Lange for Target line. If you’ve been checking fashion news lately, you may have noticed that Liz also just announced a new ready-to-wear line, which will be called Completely Me By Liz Lange and will be sold at HSN. Best of luck to Liz, but we will miss her (sniff, sniff).
All pregnant fashionistas should be mourning the loss of Liz’s high-end line particularly because her Spring 2009 collection was gorgeous. If you did not, however, happen to be shopping in the “maternity aisle” last spring you may still buy a few pieces from Liz Lange’s Spring 2009 line at several select online boutiques. Bellydance Maternity has Liz’s Maternity Rene Top here on sale for USD $91 (reduced from USD $122). It is still available in size M and size L. I have this top in navy blue and I wore it constantly during the last few weeks of my pregnancy and well into the postpartum period. It is forgiving enough but also pretty enough that you will still want it as part of your maternity wardrobe even after you have given birth and want to burn most of your maternity clothing.
The amazingly flattering Cally dress is still available at Chulamama here, although it is still full price at USD $197. Worth every penny, if you ask me. I own this dress too and I thought it was one of the most flattering maternity dresses I’ve ever worn. The cap sleeves were not as forgiving as I might like, but if you aren’t dealing with the dreaded “upper arm” issues that tend to accompany pregnancy, this is a must-have piece for the spring.
We are heading to the States tomorrow for a 10-day visit, so my next blog posting will be from there. We are traveling overnight with all 4 boys on a 12-hour trip to NY. My husband and I are experienced enough with these hellish flights to know that during those 12 hours, there will be no chance for reading a magazine, eating a meal, or let alone, sleeping. Our expectations are appropriately low–we just pray that the DVD player doesn’t break, that there is no vomiting, no diarrhea, and that the flight attendants show us some small semblance of kindness or sympathy. I am slightly comforted by the fact that this is the last of these marathon trips we will have to take before we go home to DC for good in June.
