We’ve now been back in NY for a full week and with the horrors of toddler jetlag behind us, we are really starting to enjoy ourselves. The house we’ve rented backs up onto a baseball field and I must say, all of this crazy traveling back and forth across the world seems worth it when I look at this picture at right–my three little boys completely mesmerized by a mid-summer evening Little League game.
Speaking of traveling, I spent the better part of the 12-hour flight from Tel Aviv to New York breastfeeding, but thanks to these new nursing T-shirts I have been wearing, I managed to exercise some discretion on the plane. Milkstars, a new company out of Los Angeles, sells high-end nursing T-shirts exclusively. The Julian, the Jenny, the Annie, the Michelle–the various styles of Milkstars T-shirts all have different names, with the v-necked Julian pictured here being my current favorite. The front of the shirts have two layers so that when you pull the top layer down or up to nurse, it still looks as if you are wearing a T-shirt (see picture of bottom layer at right). Not that this is an issue for most of you, but these shirts are particularly useful if you happen to live in a religious city like Jerusalem, where I have been asked twice to stop nursing in public because it is considered offensive.
And not only are the shirts designed well, allowing for very convenient, discreet nursing access, but they are made from very high-end cotton. In fact, I would buy these T-shirts even if they weren’t nursing T-shirts, they are that nice. I can’t say that about most of the nursing apparel I’ve tried out before.
In the spirit of full disclosure, I also must tell you that Milkstars was founded by a good friend of mine, Jamie, who is a new mom herself. Jamie and I both used to produce for a well-known television news personality when we were living in New York. This individual was not particularly appreciative of the people who worked for him, nor was he particularly nice in general, but he somehow had the most amazing and impressive staff of people working on his show. Jamie, one of those impressive people, gave birth last year and couldn’t find a nursing T-shirt that she really liked. So, she went ahead and designed one herself and Milkstars was born. Not surprisingly, Jamie’s business has taken off quickly. Well-known maternity boutiques across the country are already carrying Milkstars’ T-shirts, including Bump Brooklyn, Kickin’ Maternity in Chicago, Yummy Mummy in NYC, and Bump Maternity in Seattle. Milkstars isn’t selling its collection online until August, but you can email Jamie directly at info@milkstars.com if you want to order a nursing T-shirt before then. Get in touch with her and treat yourself to a beautiful nursing T-shirt, while also offering support to a small business founded by a new mom. Personally, I am so very impressed when moms are able to start successful businesses while also taking care of their children–I consider it a major accomplishment when I manage to be a mom and also take a shower every day, I can’t imagine having to run a business too.
Jamie is currently able to take orders via email or over the phone using Mastercard or Visa and the T-shirts are priced between USD $55 and USD $60.

I ordered one and it arrived today and I love it! Very soft and well designed. I hesitated because it was pricey but I’ve already ordered another because it’s very much worth the price.

I would love to see the other styles you mention above, but have not had luck seeing them on any website. Is there a site that shows the various other styles? All of the nursing tops I am find also accommodate a belly and I’m just needing the extra room on the top
