I wrote about new maternity line Madderson London before the collection launched back in September and before I had actually seen or worn any of the line’s new maternity dresses. I don’t usually do that, but I could tell that this was a very special new line for the serious fashion lover who also happened to be pregnant.
And I was right. I’ve been wearing Madderson’s Saturday Dress for the past few weekends and I love it. No, I am no longer pregnant, but it doesn’t seem to matter, as the ruching along the sides of the dress is not only designed to accommodate a sizeable pregnancy bump, but also does quite nicely in camouflaging someone who may still have “extra post-baby bits” around her middle. I usually add a low-slung belt and some long necklaces to my ensemble and leave the house feeling rather svelte–and not wearing a piece of shapewear, which I am very, very happy to leave at home on the weekends.
The Saturday Dress is just one of those comfortable, flattering pieces you will reach for often during your pregnancy. In fact, this dress is so perfect for just about any occasion, that you will find yourself figuring out how to wear it two days in a row. The dress covers your arms and decolletage, so you don’t need to stress out about what might be peeking out. The quality of the dark-colored jersey is superb, thick enough that you can get away without wearing a slip or shapewear underneath, although I think it will look great come winter with a pair of dark maternity tights and your favorite knee-high boots. The slit is high, but not too high, and it gives the dress a bit of an edge. This is clearly not your typical maternity maxi.
The Saturday Dress is available in both navy and olive, and fits true to size. The website suggests handwashing this dress. I don’t know about all of you, but handwashing my clothing is a time-consuming luxury I do not have, so I wash this dress in a lingerie bag on the delicate cycle and then hang it to dry, which has proved perfectly fine. Head over to Madderson’s online shop and treat yourself to a Saturday Dress today, you do not want another autumn day to pass without one in your closet.
